My BIGBY is part of a larger birding competition, organized by Nature Calgary, aimed at finding out how many bird species can be seen within Calgary in 2010. A NMT (Non-Motorized Transport) Big Year is one of the categories included in the Birds Calgary 2010 competition. The rules for a NMT Big Year are slightly different than a BIGBY. Birders still must use non-motorized transport in going from their home to wherever they are observing birds, however motorized transport is allowed at any point (eg, to return to their home) but no more birds can be counted until after the birder has returned home. For my Big Year I will compete under the NMT category while following the stricter BIGBY rules and use entirely non-motorized means to travel around Calgary. Wish me luck!

Introduction
I have created this blog to document my attempt at a BIGBY (Big Green Big Year) in 2010. I will use non-motorized means of transport (eg, walk, bike, ski, etc.) to see as many bird species as possible within the city limits of Calgary, Alberta. A list of the different green birding categories and definitions, including BIGBY, can be found at Green Birding in Central California.
